The Royal Opera House in Covent Garden is one of the most prestigious opera houses in Europe. During extensive renovations in 1997-1999 the opera house upgraded to become a fully automated venue, which has since saved thousands of man-hours in production. Stage Technologies was asked to provide a completely portable, multi-user console to automate 224 axes of flying bars, point hoists, rear stage bars, stage elevators and trap elevators.
The flexibility of the Nomad console allows operators to control movements from 28 different locations in the building, providing a consistent line of sight to automated axes.
In addition, the Royal Opera House’s Linbury Studio theatre has 30 axes controlled with the Nomad console and a bespoke matrix system.
Since the Royal Opera House’s refurbishment in the 1990s, Stage Technologies has worked closely with the venue, offering software upgrades, support and countless rental installations to accommodate specific demands of visiting productions.
