In early 2006, Stage Technologies was awarded the contract to supply a whole-house stage engineering package for the Royal Court Theatre and Queen’s Room venues on board this elegant liner. This vessel was the first of the Cunard fleet to be built in Italy at Fincantieri’s Marghera ship yard, near to Venice.

The Royal Court Theatre is an 830-seat venue that was unique in the cruise ship world at the time of build, in that it has private boxes on each side of the auditorium. The theatre also boasts a Royal Box, which was named by the Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Charles during their ceremonial visit. The Queen’s Room is a function and ballroom, with resident orchestra.

The control system and automated stage elements (approximately 45 axes) included:

  • Acrobat control desk
  • 2 Solo handheld controllers
  • MaxisID theatre control system
  • 18 BigTow2 290 winches
  • Motorised lighting trusses (over stage and front of house)
  • 2 stage lifts and 2 storage lifts
  • Control for 18 flying bars, 6 Serapid stage tracks, curtain tracks, safety curtain and roller projections screen
  • Complete stage floor structure and flooring and integration with stage machinery
